About the Training

This workshop offers an intensive and extensive training to skills participants in fundamental concepts and tools to monitor and evaluate programs in a wide area of development programming. This is a how to workshop and participants will gain hands on experience in designing and using M & E plans, M & E Frameworks, data systems and indicators, evaluating designs, building performance monitoring and evaluation plans among others.

Since this is a practice-workshop-each participant is encouraged to come to the workshop with a mixed methods evaluation project idea with the following elements: working title, problem, data collection involving quantitative and qualitative data, and the potential significance of the project. During the workshop, each participant will work on elements of this project and then design the tools, strategies and plans for monitoring and evaluation.

Objectives

Demonstrate a clear appreciation of the principles underlying the selection of an appropriate design for program evaluation and monitoring

Demonstrate skill in application of different strategies to monitor and evaluate programs

Understand how to design research tools, identify data sources and methods used to acquire information to assess program impact

Understand the opportunities availed by digital technology in monitoring and evaluation of programs

Workshop Methodology

This is a how to workshop premised on the assumption that participants have little/negligible training/skills in monitoring and evaluation; thus, the facilitation will combine power point presentation with lots of practical exercises drawn from ongoing projects, facilitated discussions, small group interactive exercises, large group discussions, role plays and plenary presentations.

Who should attend: This course is intended for organization staff who have not had prior training in M & E and those who need to refresh their M & E skills; thus, NGO and UN workers, national and local government staff, heads of departments and institutions, project officers/managers & Planning Personnel will find this training very relevant to their work.
